Navy Malela Mawani is a Congolese banking expert and whistleblower, committed to financial integrity and the fight against corruption. He is a UNIS ambassador.
He worked for several years in the banking sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo, notably in the audit department of Afriland First Bank CD, where he was responsible for reviewing the bank's operations and accounts.
In that role, together with his colleague Gradi Koko Lobanga, he identified and documented suspicious financial transactions. The information and thousands of banking documents they passed on to specialised organisations and journalists fed several international investigations, notably into alleged money laundering schemes and the circumvention of international sanctions.
These revelations made him one of the leading figures of whistleblowing in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They contributed to the debate on whistleblower protection, financial sector transparency and the fight against illicit financial flows in Africa. His career shows the decisive role finance professionals can play in detecting and exposing practices that harm the public interest.
