Olivier Bahati, Lead Researcher at UNIS.

Olivier Bahati is Lead Researcher at UNIS. A specialist in environmental governance and political economy, he has spent more than ten years researching the political, economic and institutional dynamics of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He holds a PhD in development studies from the University of Antwerp (Belgium). His work covers natural resource governance and environmental issues, in particular the REDD+ programme and climate change, as well as state capture, networks of influence and elite corruption.

His research examines how the interplay between political power, economic interests, public institutions and resource management enables the capture of public resources and weakens institutional accountability.

He is a researcher at the University of Antwerp and at the Catholic University of Congo (UCC).
